A single father with kids off to college, this suburban townhouse owner had an affinity for urban home design. Rather than pack up and move to the city, interior designer Brandi Hagen convinced him he didn’t have to move to achieve the “urban” atmosphere of his dreams.
Now that’s entertainment. The owner admitted: he was embarrassed to entertain in his ho-hum home. After Minneapolis Interior Designer Brandi Hagen worked her magic, his space is now “the place to be.”

Welcome to the 21st century. The square footage was already here. It was up to Brandi to transform the 1980s home design from then, to now, to Wow!
Interior walls came down to create an open floor plan. A dark-painted ceiling and exotic, hardwood Cumaru flooring underfoot created interest – and warmth. Residents and guests also enjoy prime views of the fireplace, surrounded in stone. Flanking the focal point are custom built-ins, including a wet bar to the left and a home theater to the right.

Inspired by the brick and stone in the home, a palette of strong, earthy tones including sand, caramel, warm reds, and green are repeated throughout the space. Color is introduced in the artwork and accents, including the sofa pillows. The overall interior design effect is contemporary, but warm. Livable, but exquisite. Natural – not trendy. And a happy homeowner, staying right where he is.
